Tom Miller is an award-winning Lighting Cameraman / DP with over twenty years experience shooting for the film & television industry. Tom graduated with a BA in Film and TV Production from the University of Florida School of Journalism in 1988, and began his career as a staff cameraman and writer for a production company in Chicago working on a thirteen-part documentary series for PBS called “On the Waterways,” narrated by Jason Robards. When the project was complete, Tom moved to LA to “go freelance” and began building a client base - shooting for companies like Disney, Fox, and ESPN, as well as a number of commercial and corporate production companies, independent producers, and small businesses.
In 1991, Tom founded the production company Big Pictures Media, and moved it to Colorado in 1993. Today, Big Pictures provides fully–equipped camera, lighting & sound crews, as well as turnkey media production services. They specialize in documentaries, commercials, and high-end feature segments for programs airing on ESPN, National Geographic, Discovery, PBS, ABC News, ABC Sports, The Oprah Winfrey Show, MTV, the History Channel, and more. In addition to television, Tom also shoots and directs for the commercial/corporate world. Tom’s work has garnered numerous accolades – including the Peabody Award, The Edward R. Murrow Award, the May Burton Award for Production Excellence, and several Tellys.
Tom is currently working on an instructional DVD series about field production and lighting, as well as finishing a documentary about Cuban immigration called Voices From Cuba.
