Back when we began our online community-building efforts long ago in
the days when websites were counted in the thousands, not the
mega-millions that is the case today -- we met Tom Wolsky. He had just
settled into an incredibly beautiful home above the pine-covered, rocky
northern California coastline and had just launched South Coast
Productions after a lengthy career with ABC News. Back then, he used a
Fast Video Machine and later would add a Media 100 to his studio but
today he is known as one of the foremost experts in the world of Final
Cut Pro. His new book Final Cut Pro 4 Editing Essentials. It's a fabulous book.
When
Tom isn't writing books or editing a project in his studio there above
the cliffs (his actual view seen here), you can sometimes catch him as
an instructor of Final Cut Pro in Stanford University's Academy for New
Media. He also teaches video at Mendocino High School, where in 1992 he
began his efforts to bring his vast experience to students. His work in
the Regional Occupational Program has been providing video training for
adults and high school students at Mendocino High School, a California
Model Site for Technology in Education
From 1977
until 1992, Tom worked with ABC News both in New York and in London.
Over the years, he served in various roles such as Editorial Producer
for ABC's World News Now; Producer for ABC's World News This Morning;
Producer of all news segments of Good Morning America, etc. Tom
returned to London where he worked as the coordinating producer of
Middle East coverage during the Gulf War.
Prior
to his long tenure with ABC News, Tom was also a published film writer
with four scripts completed and one filmed in South Africa with Trevor
Howard.
We
are proud of having known Tom and to have seen him develop another
chapter in his illustrious career -- that of respected author of one of
the best software training books available. You see, Tom was the first
writer we ever added to our site back in 1995 who was not then directly
involved in the world of Media 100 (which was our early beginnings).
Like us, Tom has grown through tools and has enthusiastically embraced
new innovations and because of that, he's tough to pin down. He's
always testing the new and the creative and he's one of the sharpest
users around.
And we're proud to know him and to have him on the Creative Cow team.
