Colin Thomson lives in Ottawa, Ontario. Canada (The Capital of Canada). He first came involved with big time production when he was very young (age 15). His father owns a professional lighting company called Kim-Ko Stage Lighting Productions, which is were Colin learned about professional productions. Colin gradually made his way through the ranks to become lighting technician that enabled him to tour all around Canada. Whether it was rock bands, figure skating shows, conventions, car shows, tv commercials, he has been there and seen all aspects of production setup. Even for live televised events.
At the age of eight Colin began playing the Drums and Percussion which he still does today. From 1993-97 Colin was part of a band called Zebulon. This band took off like wild fire locally. In 1994 Zebulon was persued by MCA Canada Concerts. But as things were getting quite serious between talks, the bass player got cold feet and wanted out. The label gave us 6 months to find a replacement or else they were gone. Zebulon was unable to find a suitable replacement. The two founding members of Zebulon Lonny Gallant and Colin Thomson are now under their own recording label and have two professional studios of their own. They plan on releasing their third CD in Fall 2002.
In 1993 Colin was introduced to 3D Studio Release 2 (DOS Platform). He immediately was hooked on the possibilities of what could be accomplished in this medium. The internet at that time was just being born and Colin immediately began programming and creating websites. His previous experience with BBS’s (Bulletin Board Systems) gave him an upper hand in the website development side of things. While pursuing his knowledge in 3D Studio he also was drawn into other graphic software applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Poser, Bryce, Dreamweaver, Cakewalk Pro Audio etc. Colin is now certified in 3dsmax and Photoshop.
In early 1995 Colin got his first big contract from an United States Company called VisualNET. They were located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Colin’s duties included all aspects of 3D graphics and Animation, VRML. Due to a non-disclosure contract still in effect he is limited on what exactly he can say about certain projects. In 1997-present Colin began instructing 3D Studio MAX at The Ottawa School of Art and his own studio called icanLearnComp Studio.
