Having spent 10 years working as a professional photographer, Dave felt constrained by the limitations of the 35mm still frame, and decided it was time to move on. He became increasingly interested in video editing and video production, and purchased his first video camera, a JVC GX-N7UT. A chance meeting resulted in a job offer for a local TV company. After 4 years working for Meridian Broadcasting as a post-production graphics designer, he was offered the chance to become a programme maker….it was a no-brainier and he jumped at the chance! After shooting, directing, and editing 100s of hours of both primetime and local TV shows for Meridian Broadcasting, Granada Media, and Sky, he decided to take the plunge and left Meridian, to accept a position at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. While at Henson’s, Dave created both practical and CGI effects for numerous features, commercials, and TV dramas, several of which won Emmy awards.
After the closure of Henson’s Camden workshop Dave became a freelance prop maker, creating props for both commercials, and features, he even made James Bond's weapons for his Aston Martin Vanquish.
Dave returned to video production in 1999, and has been involved in both TV, music video, commercial, and digital feature production ever since.
He currently runs ‘Push Button Make Work’, a small but perfectly formed video production company based in the South of England. Dave is also on the board of directors of London-based film production company ‘Roller Films’, who are just about to start production on their first big budget feature.
Dave has been using JVC cameras and decks for many years, and currently uses HD-100, and HD-251 HDV cameras, as well as his GX-N7UT -- which, after all these years is still going strong! He has an extensive knowledge of JVC cameras and decks, and also has over 10 years experience using Apple Final Cut Pro. In fact, he was one of the first broadcasters in the UK to test the software.
