John Rofrano is an author, trainer, software architect, videographer, musician, vocalist, and songwriter. His early musical influences were people like Peter Nero, Jimmy Smith, Lee Michaels, and later Rick Wakeman, and Keith Emerson. He admires songwriters like Burton Cummings and Randy Newman for their unique styles, and bands like Yes, ELP, and Gentle Giant for their musicianship and willingness to push the envelope.
John spent 10 years back in the 70's as a working rock musician paying his dues playing keyboard in nightclubs and studios with various bands in the NY/NJ/Conn tri-state area, but his interest in the early days of electronic music and MIDI programming ultimately lead to a career in computer science where he has recently been working in the area of Grid Computing and On Demand Computing. John holds patents in the computer science field and has published papers in the IBM Systems Journal, and Dr Dobbs Journal. He is also the author of several popular software script plug-ins for Sony Vegas software that are sold by VASST.
Ever since taking a course in college on video and TV production, John has always wanted to create his own videos. Although he bought his first video camera in 1989, it was not until the time of Sonic Foundry Vegas 3 that John really started doing non-linear editing on his computer. He has spent his time since then mastering Sony Vegas and Sony ACID and has authored several books (Instant ACID, Instant Vegas Movie Studio) and VASST training DVD’s on the topic. His interest in video has lead him to writing sound tracks for his works and eventually full circle back to his roots in writing music again where he enjoys using Sony ACID Pro as his primary music composition tool.
When not making videos, music, or writing software, you can find John hanging out at the Creative Cow and other forums just trying to help out. His motto: "Never forget where you came from, for you were once a newbie too."
