In
1983, Lee “Rod” Roderick pointed a live studio camera at vinyl peel ‘n’
stick letters on posterboard fastened to a music stand to luma key a
lower 3rd… and he hasn’t left production since.
Principally self taught and always hungry for knowledge, Lee absorbed
everything he could while working 13 years with Viacom’s Cable
Division. Not content with one full time job, he produced and directed
independent documentaries when ADO page peels ruled the world! During
his personal projects, Lee had the opportunity to pick the brains of
genre icons Frank Darabont, Clive Barker, Stuart Gordon and many more.
In 1996, Lee jumped ship to start his own operation, North Gate, to
provide visual effects and motion graphics for corporations such as
Apple, Maxtor and Charles Schwab. He also served as Lead Compositor on
a 20th Century Fox feature film. Lee is a Certified Discreet Training
Specialist for combustion and in 2003 he launched combustion 3 for
Discreet in New York and Los Angeles. Always the busy instructor, Lee
wrote and presented the New Features Presentations that ship with
Discreet combustion 4 and is co-author of combustion 2 and 4 Courseware
for Autodesk Press.
Along with his demanding production schedule, Lee is co-owner of the
Las Vegas based Runaway Training where his combustion training DVDs
bear the Discreet Certified Learning Materials label. As a combustion
forum leader at creativecow.net and a founding member of both the Los
Angeles and San Francisco combustion User Groups, he’s a familiar name
and face in the combustion community.
