I
was born in a small town in South Yorkshire, England called Wombwell.
It is near both Barnsley and Sheffield. At the age of eleven my father
got a transfer to Montreal, so the family picked up and moved to Canada.
In 1992, I completed my studies at Loyalist College Of Applied Arts and
Technology in the field of Television Broadcasting. After a year of
looking for a job in TV, and selling suits, I landed a job in
Lloydminster Alberta working for Midwest television. I did master
control for both CKSA and CITL, their CBC and CTV affiliates. Apart
from the fact that the money was barely enough to pay the rent, I had
lots of fun. After only 7 months I managed to secure a part time
position with RDS, and was able to return the best city in the world,
Montréal, Canada. I have no plans on leaving !!!!!
I was married in 2001 to my wife, France. We have two great kids.
Tristan was born in 2000, and Chloé was born in 2003. Family is the
number one reason for getting up in the morning.
I have been at RDS (Le Réseau des Sports) since 1994. RDS was the
world’s first French only, all-sports channel. We broadcast everything,
from hockey (we carry every game of the Montréal Canadiens, right
through to the Stanley Cup final), to Formula 1, all major tennis
tournaments, all major golf tournaments, Nascar, Cart, and a whole slew
of other sports, including Curling. We are an affiliate of ESPN, and
are owned by CTV.
While at RDS, I have occupied a number of different positions. I
started out as a part-time replacement master control operator. I was
lucky as I received training in a number of other jobs, such as VTR
operator, Satellite tech and news editing. After a few years I took a
position as a news editor, then after a almost a year, I accepted a
position as a switcher. This enabled me to really learn the ins and
outs of production and the control room environment. After 2 years of
switching I took the position of Senior Editor, the position I hold
today. When taking the job I didn’t realize how much I would love it. I
am hooked. I love editing. My job calls for a lot of effects driven
editing and compositing. I use Pinnacle Liquid Blue for editing, and a
combination of Boris Red, After Effects and Photoshop for the
finishing. For client approval I typically send a QT or WMV using
CleanerXL from Discreet.
In my spare time I play soccer in a league. I also coach my son in
soccer. Since time is an issue, I have a gym in the basement where I
can go and unwind by pumping some weights, or going for a run on the
treadmill. I love spending time with the family, they are my pride and
joy. I am a huge fan of Seinfeld and the King of Queens. Recently I got
into the show, 6 feet under. Luckily I am now able to now watch TV and
films without constantly evaluating the editing and effects.
I love helping others whenever I can, and that is why I have been a
part of the COW since day one. I have the utmost respect for the people
on this site, including of course the Lindebooms, who I consider great
friends. For me, the only dumb question is the one that you don’t ask.
I will never be rude to newbies, because at one point in time, we were
all newbies.
