In college, Mike Cohen thought he would
work in broadcast news. He ran the University of Hartford student
news broadcast, did news internships and took journalism classes.
Then Mike discovered corporate video
and a job duping tapes at Ciné-Med. After a few months Mike
was promoted to shooter editor, and has never looked back.
The first edit suites back in 1994 were
Ampex ACE 25 edit controller based, with a Vista switcher, ADO and
both 1" and MII machines.
As technology evolved to include
in:sync Speed Razor, Media 100, and now Adobe Premiere, so too have
Ciné-Med's services, business model, and Mike's
responsibilities.
Now serving as production manager, Mike
serves as project manager on numerous medical educational projects,
including videos, websites and interactive Flash programs. Other
responsibilities include attending several medical trade shows each
year, and new business development.
A member of the COW since its
inception, Mike is an active participant in the forums, a leader on
the Business and Marketing forum and a COW blogger to boot.
When not shooting
surgery or editing nursing videos, Mike likes vacationing in Cape Cod
with his wife Rachael, watching movies, DIY projects around the house
and cooking.
Creative Cow leader Mike Cohen has been working on the cutting edge of surgical video for years. In this expanded version of his article in the Cow Magazines Non-Broadcast Production Issue, Mike answers some of the most frequently asked questions about these techniques from the Cow forums. Its fascinating stuff, but seriously, maybe have some breakfast before you take a look.
