David Battistella is a director, writer, producer, editor and actor. In 2002, his feature documentary, Shinny: The Hockey in All of Us, won the Banff World Television Festival Rockie Award for best sports documentary. The ode to the Canadian game has been broadcast nationally, used as the visual companion to ‘O Canada’ at NHL games, and used as a teaching tool at Ohio State University.
In 2003 he made a film Traveler's Wasteland for the Digital Gun Awards in Toronto, which he wrote, acted in, directed and edited in 48 hours. His recent work includes Undone, a short film that follows a young girl’s path to her finding her father after her mother's unexpected death. This film was screened at the 2007 Cannes Short Film Corner and is slated for broadcast in 2008.
He founded F8 Films, a company dedicated to bringing story telling to corporate film and developing broadcast and theatrical films. In the past two years David has completed Alphabet Peace -- the film was written, filmed, edited and screened in the same space, fulfilling the goal of liberating film from traditional methods of creation and distribution.
David is a film technology innovator and is a leader in this field. He is the chair of the Final Cut Pro user group in Toronto, and an associate member of the Canadian Cinematographers Society. As an early adopter of the RED camera system, David has been asked to speak at numerous events, sharing his knowledge and experience with his peers.
Late in 2007 David landed a lead role in a television miniseries Cold Blood, slated for broadcast on Channel 5 in the UK early in 2008. David has written and is preparing to direct a documentary based on the breakthrough research of Dr. Kang Lee of the Institute of Child Study on why children tell lies.
His company has created short films for such organizations as the National Public Policy Forum, The Canada Institute, the University Health Network, the University of Toronto and the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.
